A Celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and 70 Year Reign as Sovereign

It’s a momentous time in British history – the Queen has reached an astonishing 70 years as the head of the UK monarch and British commonwealth! She’s the first to do so in British Monarch history. This tells you what an amazing feat she has accomplished. After all that’s happened during the pandemic, including the Queen recently contracting Covid and her devoted husband Prince Philips sadly passing away in April 2021, it’s great that the country can celebrate something positive as the UK begins to get back to some pre-pandemic normality. The official day for reaching 70 years was the 6th of February 2022 (known as Accession Day). There are a whole host of events and festivities to mark the historic occasion.

What’s Planned for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?

At Global QA Consultants, we will join in the festivities like the rest of the country as the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee. To mark the occasion, the Royal Family have not just planned events throughout 2022 but have particularly highlighted a one-time June four day bank holiday weekend bonanza. Moving the traditional Spring Bank Holiday in May to the 2nd of June, the UK has created a long weekend to celebrate. Events will include:

1. The Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour). This will feature 200 horses, 400 musicians and over 1,400 parading soldiers to honour the Queen’s official Birthday, which is typically held on the second Saturday in June. To round off the event we will see the RAF fly-past.
2. On 3rd June, there will be a ceremony at the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral to thank the Queen for her long reign over the UK and Commonwealth.
3. For Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th, there will be lots of fun events to watch on TV or attend in person with tickets, such as the Platinum Party at the Palace (broadcast on the BBC) and the Derby at Epsom Downs (horse racing), attended by the Queen. Place your bets!
4. To round off the weekend of such a joyous occasion, there will be the Platinum Jubilee Pageant and the Big Jubilee Lunch where communities join together since 2009 to connect with those they know and make new friends and bonds. How Many Significant Jubilees Has the Queen Had?

This is the third major Jubilee the Queen has celebrated in her reign as sovereign. With a plethora of other notable Jubilees she has also achieved as monarch of the UK and at one time a rather large empire (currently 16 different countries). Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1977, proudly presided over a Golden Jubilee in 2002 and the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the same year that Britain hosted the Olympics.

Following the passing of her father George VI in 1952, the Queen ascended to the throne at 25 years old and had her coronation during 1953, presiding over seven independent commonwealth countries including South Africa and Australia. She is the longest-serving female monarch in the history of any country, the longest-lived British monarch in history as well as the longest-reigning monarch currently. Quite a few records and accomplishments for someone who wasn’t officially supposed to be Queen! In that time she has been visited by or visited five different popes and seen many major political upheavals and controversies.

The last monarch to reach the milestone outside of the UK was the late Bhumibol Adulyadej, who reach 70 years on the throne in 2016 as King of Thailand.

What Other Celebrations Will We Witness in 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?

As we stated previously, it’s not just the four day bank holiday weekend that will see celebrations across the country for the Queen’s reign. There will also be several events such as the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee beacons across the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, as well as Royal Collection Trust and events at her estates in Sandringham plus Balmoral. In addition, there is a project underway to plant thousands of trees (over 60,000 already) across the UK to commemorate the event. And to add some more fun to proceedings, there has been a nationwide competition to create a Jubilee Pudding, with five finalists having a bake-off on TV judged by a panel including Dame Merry Berry.
