How to Make a Rockin’ Christmas Party That Goes Off With a Bang

It’s the most wonderful time of the year as families, friends and works colleagues get together to celebrate Christmas. A month for great food, buying gifts for one another and generally just having a fantastic time in the company of those you cherish. And of course, one of the best ways to do this is with a dazzling Christmas party. It’s great fun attending these events, but what if you have to put one on yourself for a big group of people? With so much to plan and think about, it can be slightly nerve-wracking and sometimes feel pressured when the expectant guests arrive. But with these tips, you can put on a great party that goes off without a hitch.

Get Organised in Advanced

While the idea of going with the flow seems more relaxing and in keeping with the Christmas spirit, no plan in place could spell a Xmas ‘disaster’. Ok, we’re perhaps being a tad dramatic for effect, but you get the point. There are so many things to think about when creating a party. First of all, you need to arrange a date that’s free for everyone or at least the majority of your guests. Most people opt for the weekend because many companies do not work on Saturday and Sunday. A great time to have a booze-up! So it’s important to arrange the invitations and send them out early, to give your pending guests plenty of time.

Then you have to think about food, drinks, games to play for entertaining and just giving people the most enjoyable time possible – as well as yourself of course! The little details also matter:

  • Arranging space for your guests to park or buddying up friends so they can travel together
  • Make the house nice and tidy ahead of the party to take a load off your mind and make your guests feel welcome
  • Create a space for the guests’ coats, shoes etc, so you have less to think about when they arrive
  • Some little touches such as drinks and mince pies upon arrival will set the tone!
  • Get the lighting perfect in the house, warm and friendly but able to see each other, so the conversation is flowing around the Christmas tree

Create a Themed Event

There is nothing like a themed event to get the guests excited beforehand. It produces a talking point for the party at work or between family and friends – letting the festive Christmas buzz begin early about the shenanigans at your household. The question remains – which party theme are you going to go with, as there are so many choices? Try and think about the people you have invited and tailor to that. Perhaps something involving costumes around an iconic Christmas film – think Home Alone or Harry Potter themed event if there are kids. Or what about a class Dickens theme with dresses and suits with lanterns hanging from the walls of your home? So many possibilities if done right will have people talking about your Xmas party for years to come.

Festive Bites to Delight – Food for Thought

Guests won’t expect a roast dinner with all the trimmings upon arrival, but food matters at parties, even if you don’t think it will. Especially if the guests turn up hungry! So which festive treats do you decorate on the table for your friends and family? Nibbles always go down well at parties, so a knife and fork are not needed! With lots of people, it’s often difficult to accommodate enough seating area, so little plastic plates with some sausage rolls, crisps, or even going fancy with some tapas selections never fails.

Again, you have to think about the guests and try catering to all as best as possible. In terms of drinks, cocktails for adults is always a winner. Creating a little space for mixers and spirits on a trolley or table can make it feel like a bar without even needing one. Remember to stock up with enough fizzy drinks and juice if kids are present, or the adults are feeling worse for wear!

Most of All – Have Fun

As we said earlier, hosting a party can feel stressful with lots of guests but the idea is to have fun and spend time with those that matter during the festive holiday. A little planning, a sprinkle of Xmas cheer, the right music playlist and throw some games in and you’ve got a winning formula!
