What are the Best New Year’s Resolutions and Which Should You Try for 2022?

Best New Year’s Resolutions

It’s come to that time of year again, that interesting lull after Christmas before we usher in the New Year and perhaps a new beginning. With the leftover turkey now gobbled up and more than a week of holiday at home for some under their belt, it’s time to start reflecting on the trials and tribulations of 2021. Do you feel like you made the most of the year just gone? Is there anything you would have done differently? Or maybe something you’re extremely proud of? Whether you share it with the world on Facebook or just raise a glass at home, life is worth celebrating now more than ever.

Looking ahead to the New Year, how will you celebrate? What will you do differently in 2022, are you peeking into the future while wearing glasses of optimism? Traditionally, people create New Year’s resolutions to take a risk, try a different path in their life journey or attempt something they’ve been holding back on. Let’s evaluate the different ways we can all make a fresh start in 2022.

Prioritise Your Mental Health

When we usher in the New Year, it’s important to not just think of others but to focus on your wellbeing. Sometimes in the hectic chaos of life (especially when the pressures of work, family and friends ensue), we take a step backwards on our mental health. While it’s important to lend a hand to those who need it, this year everyone should take a note to give some time back to themselves each day. Even if it’s just five minutes of yoga in the morning, taking the dog for extra work or simply doing something you love like reading or relaxing with music each day. Any of these steps or whatever you can think of that’s personal to you can help with the process of prioritising your mental health in 2022.

Take Up a New Challenge

Something you’ve dreamed of doing but been putting it off? Whether it’s learning a new language, visiting a foreign country you’ve always imagined visiting on holiday but are scared of the journey or trying a new diet, there are multiple options to challenge yourself daily. Take a walk on the wild side and do something extraordinary each day that takes you out of your comfort zone. Think how cautious you would be in the past and embrace a new way of life – as a few risks could make all the difference to a new aspiration you’ll love and appreciate. It’s never too late to dream and chase those goals.

Get the Finances in Order

With Christmas now over, you may be feeling the effects in your wallet or purse. While it’s lovely to buy gifts for others, it’s now back to the monthly and annual reality of paying the bills to make ends meet. Life is full of unexpected challenges and it could be your New Year’s resolution to get those finances in order. What you can do to help you on your way is set up a few apps to help you manage your money and budget when the salary drops each month or week. Understanding your outgoings and managing them by standing orders can do a world of good with a little organisation going a long way towards a healthier financial future.

Exercise is a Breath of Fresh Air

You can not underestimate the power of exercise to your well-being – making this one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. We’re all guilty of piling on the pounds over Christmas, indulging in fatty foods that we love but our figure doesn’t appreciate. Even though it’s nice to flex out and not worry about our weight or obligations over the holiday season, setting targets in 2022 to look after your weight and achieving this goal by putting in the work with exercise is a great benchmark for the New Year. It can be anything simple you can manage – from a brisk walk each morning before work to jogging on the treadmill, hopping on the bike or going for a swim in the local pool (or lake in the summer).

Less of the Technology/More of the Outdoors

If you don’t feel like intense exercise, that’s ok. But we can’t stress enough how vital it is to put down the technology once in a while each day and connect with the outdoors. This is a great resolution because we’re all guilty of working too much, staring at the screens for too long, whether that’s a tablet, mobile, TV or work laptop. Switch off those devices early before bed and wake up fresh. Instead of spending time flicking through social media when you get a moment, read a book, walk in nature or do something productive outside.

Be Spontaneous

Most of all set a resolution to have fun in life. It’s short enough as it is without adding years of stress and headache. Do something new each day you never imagined possible – book a trip away, push the boundaries of what you thought was capable and try to forge a new path in your life, whether taking small or big steps to challenge yourself. When you take the risk and go out of your comfort zone, you’ll feel more alive than ever!

If you have ideas of good New Year’s Resolutions, we’d love to hear them!
