ISO 14001:2015 - Environmental Management Systems
We help you to effectively manage your interaction with, and impact upon, the environment whilst improving your business performance through the implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
Why do we need ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 specifies the requirements for an Environmental Management System. We live in a world that is constantly looking at reducing Environmental Impact. ISO 14001 is a fantastic tool to assist in driving a reduction in the impact you have on the Environment. Certification to the Standard demonstrates that you take your Environmental Impact very seriously. Our ISO 14001 Consultants are here to help.
ISO 14001 has just been revised with ISO 14001:2026 now published. Organisations are expected to have transitioned by April 2029. If you need support with your transition, please get in touch.
What Are The Benefits of Implementing An Environmental Management System (EMS)?
Implementing an EMS is a systematic way to control the effects your activities have on the Environment. In addition, it drives compliance with legislation and should avoid fines.
Successful environmental management evaluates all opportunities for cost savings whilst ensuring a reduction in environmental impact.
Adverse publicity about environmental impact can be highly damaging, so a responsible attitude dramatically improves the image of your organisation. In addition, companies seeking growth want their services and products to attract the broadest possible market.
ISO 14001 certification impresses many groups of people:
- Customers
- Employees
- Investors
- Insurers
- Regulators/statutory bodies
- Environmental groups

ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems
Since rising energy costs and increasing press to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are making the need for effective energy management a priority.
Specifically, ISO 50001 will:
- Certification to ISO 50001 will meet Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)
- Reduce energy costs through measurement and management of consumption
- Promote energy efficiency throughout the supply chain
- Evaluate and prioritise new energy-efficient technologies
- Increase your range of new business opportunities and meet contractual obligations
- Increase stakeholder confidence and enhance the reputation
Also, an amendment to this standard was released in 2024 (+A1 2024) to provide greater emphasis for considerations to the risks associated with climate change.
What Is The Difference Between ISO 14001 & ISO 50001?
Furthermore, you can use ISO 50001 in isolation or with ISO 14001.
By comparison, whilst ISO 14001 helps you identify and manage the generic environmental aspects, ISO 50001 has a particular focus on energy.
ISO 50001 helps you to implement the processes necessary to understand your energy usage. Establish an energy policy, plans, targets and performance indicators for reducing energy consumption.
So if energy is a high cost to your business, then ISO 50001 may be an appropriate first step or a valuable addition to your existing environmental management system.
